Georgia Direct Support Professional Retreat

The Soul of Direct Support

by Deborah Conway

On September 17-18 2009, the Georgia Direct Support Alliance held a retreat for Direct Support Professionals in Dahlonega, Georgia.  The theme for the retreat was “The Soul of Direct Support”, and was facilitated by special guest speaker Peter Leidy who is known both nationally and internationally for working with and learning from direct support workers.  CPCP was excited to be afforded the opportunity to send two well deserving staff to the beautiful rustic retreat center in Dahlonega.  During the retreat, they joined other Direct Support Professionals in discussions and learning, which included “The role of direct support in building community relationships” and “Being leaders in our community”. If you would like more information regarding the Direct Support Alliance, please visit www.directsupport.com and Facebook, at Georgia DSP Alliance.

 Direct Support Professionals Training/Retreat

by Shannon Bruce

Kevin Ivery and Shannon Bruce attended a 2-day training/retreat in the beautiful mountains of Dahlonega, Georgia. The theme for the training was “Relate, Release, and Relax”.   Attendees were encouraged to share stories, ideas, and to relax.  Kevin and Shannon both had a great time, and recommended that all support staff should have the opportunity to attend.
